Utilities Tip #3 - Should you fill your fridge? | ||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
If you read other articles and blogs on saving money, one topic that often comes up is filling up a fridge. The idea is, a full fridge (and freezer) costs less money to run because
there is less air inside. Every time you open your fridge door the cool air inside escapes and so your fridge needs to recool the air when you close the door. So, the less air inside
the lower your running costs. But, is this true? Before we consider this in detail it might actually not be worth worrying over-much about. The average fridge costs around $0.15 per day to run, so the possible savings are perhaps a cent or less a day. Sure, it's money but there are more important places (like heating and cooling your home) to worry about first. And then, it is not clear if there are any savings at all. Some people argue that when you add items to your fridge the extra cost to cool down these items exactly match the savings you make on having less air inside. That may, or may not,. |

Food Tip #3 - Grow some food | ||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Growing your own food brings a number of benefits. As well as saving money you also get fresher and healthier food and it is a lot of fun as well (particularly if you have kids). The questions of course are, where can you grow and what should you grow. Many of us live in small apartments or rooms, but that shouldn't stop you. A balcony or even a shelf by a window can be a good growing space. Some tips on what to grow: 1) Plants where you eat the leaf will be easier to grow (particularly if you are growing inside where there are no butterflies or bees to help pollinate flowers). So lettuce, herbs or spinach are all a better bet than tomatoes. 2) Easy to grow plants are cheap! It's a fact of life that most easy to grow food (like lettuce and potatoes) are pretty cheap to buy, limiting your savings. Herbs are the best money-saver. Most are fairly easy to grow and quite. |

We get payments from Fiverr on quite a regular basis and certainly don't write a blog post for each payment! This payment was a little larger than most so we decided to upload it here, just in case more proof was needed of Fiverr's paying status! ![]() Read more about Fiverr here |

Utilities Tip #2 - Keep a Bucket in your Shower | ||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
In winter we have to run a lot of water through our shower before it heats up. That water doesn't have to go to waste! Keep a bucket in your shower and collect that water. You can use it to flush your toilet or to water your plants. I now actually keep my watering can in my shower and use that to collect the water - very simple and it means my garden costs me nothing! ![]() I now keep a watering can in my shower! |
